Qualifiers - Season 2010

Each of the six qualifiers will consist of three phases:

Ridden Display of Basic Flatwork (RD)

Basic tests (revised 2010) will be performed in 60x20 metre arenas (click here for Arena & Tack) and assessed by competent Judges selected by FEHL. These new tests are included in this Schedule and are on our website (click here for Dressage Test )and must be ridden from memory. The tests will result in a score of plus points. Presentation and Trot-Up, including Conformation and Walk and Trot in-hand, will be assessed separately by the S&P Judge immediately after this test.

Jumping (J)

This phase takes place over a Derby-type course in an enclosed arena, over fences best described as miniature replicas of cross country fences, but mostly with knockable poles. The lower part of a fence may be solid, e.g. in the form of a bank or stone wall. Fences likely to be encountered are: ditches, water, banks, bush fences, a coffin or sunken road etc, as well as combinations of such fences. The first few fences may be of a 'show-jumping' nature. At least one fence on each FEHL course will be a true (square) parallel of maximum height.

See Rules Section for details and penalties.

From a maximum score of 8 points per jumping effort, penalties will be deducted for fences knocked, refusals, excess time etc, as per FEHL Rules, resulting in a score of plus points. On the 4-year old jumping course, an alternative to the steeplechase fence may be offered between the red and white flags.

Suitability and Potential (S&P)

In the third phase, unique to FEHL, an animal's suitability and potential as a future international event horse will be assessed throughout the entire competition, based on a number of set criteria, by separate Judges selected from a panel of competent and experienced horsemen and horsewomen, by invitation of the FEHL Organisers.

A maximum of 100 points may be awarded by the S&P judges in each class, having assessed the horse throughout the Basic Flatwork, Presentation and Jumping phases. The criteria for the judging of S&P are included in this Schedule and on our website. For the purpose of weighting, a multiplier of 0.6 will apply to the total scores achieved.

In the event of equality of points after all three phases, the placings will be decided by the highest score in the J phase; if still equal, in the RD phase; if still equal, in the S&P phase; if still equal, by decision of the S&P Jumping Judge.
